Advantages and Disadvantages of Rich Media society - 10 Mints Seminar Notes

 

About Media:

•    Media refers to various means of communication. It also refers to communication devices. Communication devices are used to interact and communicate among people.

•    India has been a mandatory component of our lives. we cannot dream our life without media. Form the term media first impression that comes to my mind is television or internet as well as the newspaper and radio is also type of media. But the use of newspaper and media is much lower and less helpful in comparison to television and internet. The drastic change in lifestyle of people is the gift of media to us. Media makes our life very easy and quick.

•    But media has its advantage and disadvantage. If some are taking in a positive manner to good incident it’s very good but many times it happens that good happenings also taken in a wrong manner by the media and its being highlighted then that is a disadvantage.

•    Firstly we discuss about advantages of media than we discuss about the disadvantages.

 

Advantages of living in media rich society:-

1.    It educates people, through television, radio and internet people can learn about health matters, students can watch online video lectures and many more

2.    People get the latest news in very short time. In which distance doesn’t matters. People get news daily through the media and this keeps them updated on the happening around the world.

3.    People get to bring out their hidden talent. Through media showcase their talents such as comedy, acting and singing etc. We can say that media is a platform for people those have some talent to bring it out.

4.    Student’s knowledge increases. Students can learn from the online videos, quiz program and so on.

5.    Media makes our lives so easy that even for shopping we do not have to go market or shop we can order any product or item from internet.

6.    Media is also very useful in advertisements. Great in promoting products. This can increase sales of product.

7.    It is also a very good source of entertainment. People get entertained through music and television programs.

8.    It reduces the cost of making mass education possible such as newspaper, books etc.

9.    With the help of media we can able to know about different type or culture without going there we can watch about different culture at home in only one click?

10.    It helps people around the world to understand each other.

Disadvantages of living in media rich society are:-

1.    People spend too much time on the internet and watching television. As result, socialization with friends, family and neighbors is affected.

2.    Some media contents are not suitable and limiting children’s access to such content can be very difficult.

3.    Internet as a form of media opens up possibilities of hacking and fraud.

4.    Media can be addictive, e.g. some television programs and internet.

5.    Prolonged watching of television and internet can lead to eyesight problems and radio listening using earphones lead to hearing defects.

6.    It can lead to personal injury. Some people decide to follow the stunts that are showcased in the media.

7.    It can lead to ruin of reputation. It is possible for one to create an anonymous account. Such accounts can be used for spreading rumors. This can lead to reputation of an individual or a company.

8.    In televisions some program makes the use of drugs and alcohol appears cool.
