Definitions

Direct Marketing

             Direct marketing is communicating with members of the public who have shown intent to buy from you, through direct communication like e-mail, post or telegram. It is also called as Traditional marketing.

 

Indirect Marketing

            Indirect marketing is communicating with the public through intermediaries are used to help distributed the product.


Marketing channels

 



Advantages of Direct marketing

1) Focus limited resources on targeted promotion.

2) Can personalise the marketing message.

3) Relatively easy to measure response and success.

4) Easy to test different marketing messages.

5) Cost effective if customer database is well managed.

 

Disadvantages of Direct marketing

1) Response rates vary enormously.

2) Ineffective campaigns can be costly

3) Negative image of junk mail and e-mail spam.

4) Database expensive to maintain and keep accurate.


Advantages of Indirect marketing

1) No costs and risks entering into the market.

2) No need to know market characteristics.

3) No need to know customers requirements and behaviours.


Disadvantages of Indirect marketing

1) No control on the market.

2) Lack of direct info from the market.

3) No contact with the endusers.

4) Risk of substitution from intermediaries.
